recrudescence: (all the world is football shaped)
Add MemoryShare This Entry
Since I'm feeling nostalgic and I'm in no hurry to work on more applications, another mix! This one's for [livejournal.com profile] macg22: cowgirl, globetrotter, and Peace Corps survivor. If I had the means to traverse the continent to Pigfarts, I so totally would. Why do my friends keep settling west of the Mississippi?

The Caroline Movement: Highway Appeal
You got miles at your feet
I won't waste the time
Taking you there with me
If you don't feel free

America: A Horse With No Name
The ocean is a desert with its life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love

Carbon Leaf: Life Less Ordinary (live)
This is the goal: to get into your soul
If I could make you dance for joy
Could that be the second-chance decoy?

Stroke 9: Little Black Backpack
Don't wanna tango with you
I'd rather tangle with him
I think I'm gonna bash his head in

Operation Ivy: Jaded
Leave when you want, because I know that someday I will too
But I won't burn my bridges and be just another jaded fool

Bjork: Alarm Call
I have walked this earth
And watched people
It doesn't scare me at all

Epik High (ft. Jisun): One
When all the doors in the world close for me
I’ll support you with my hand

South: Autumn Morning
He's up in the attic of his long-forgotten dreams
Searching through the memories
Of his life or how it seems

The Shins: Girl on the Wing
And though the comedy softens the fall
They still hear us with their ears to the wall.

Neko Case: Maybe Sparrow
In a thunderstorm above the clouds
The engine hums a sparrow's phrase
For those who cannot hear the words

Rasputina: Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd cover)
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Annie Lennox: Into the West
Don't say we have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again

Pansy Division: Cowboys are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other (Ned Sublette cover)
Well, a cowboy may brag about things that he's done with his women.
But the ones who brag loudest are the ones that are most likely queer.

Unrelated, but I FUCKING LOVE WHEN GRAD SCHOOL APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED ON A ROLLING BASIS, BUT AREN'T ADVERTISED AS SUCH. Srsly, I submitted the online component, then emailed admissions to be sure the entire application wouldn't be void if one of my references arrived past the deadline, and they were all, "Yeeeeah, no prob, we accept spring submissions until mid-December."

Whatever, my personal statement is awesome and I'd rather have applications out of my hair sooner rather than later, but I'm still a little annoyed.

Wheee, hooray personal statement awesomeness! I am so happy to be done with mine. Applications in general are just so soul-killing.

Yeah, my goal for this weekend is to tweak enough writing to knock out another application. It's easiest once you have a working draft that you can poke to fit different application requirements, but it definitely isn't fun.

(Oh, also, are you going to be at any of the DC festivities this weekend?)

Ha. No, definitely not fun.

I am! The marathon expo, because I need to get all the marathon stuff--my bib and shirt and whatnot. We'll probably see if we can catch any of the rally. If we do, we do. If not, eh, well, we tried. But then of course there's the race on Sunday! So nervous about that, but getting kind of excited, too. =) Are you going to festivities?

Oh, wow, I forgot the marathon is so soon. I'm going to try and hit up the Rally to Restore Sanity and probably go out with friends later, but I doubt things are going to fall into place until the last second possible.
