Am reading Twilight. Just to make sure it's really worth the wank.

Thing is, I was reading Lovecraft immediately beforehand, and the juxtaposition is like going from plasma-screen HDTV to a black-and-white affair with rabbit ears you have to spastically wave around in order to get anything resembling a satisfactory picture.

New!Teacher swore I would love it and send me the file earlier today. Eighty pages left and I am so thoroughly beyond unconvinced. She owes me an Atlas bar (which, bluerosefairy, are a highly recommended specimen of Korean junk food). This is seriously the least engaging thing I've read in a very long time. And that includes the photo essay on mangroves I just taught in fifth grade.

The "one big incestuous vampire family" thing could have been kind of cool, too. But I am Not Thinking About This because I have yet to start my Yuletide fic. Ahahaha, God help me.

LOL, Twilight sucks and is nothing but insulting, but it's great for a laugh, if you're willing to overlook the infuriating shit to see it as funny. This is my opinion, anyway.

I remember reading your post about the movie and being amazed and appalled at the diehard fans. And the reports of the actors getting literally mobbed by them are just disgusting. Good Lord, people, control yourselves.

So nice to hear that someone I trust thinks that Twilight is a piece of complete drivel. One of the wardrobe crew is reading it and flying through them, saying how engaging and entertaining they are, and it's hard for me not to ridicule. I suppose everyone has different tastes, but I can't understand how these have become so popular, after reading an excerpt and going, "Seriously, are people joking?"

It's a young adult book, not Harry Potter. I found it pretty entertaining for a mindless read, but I have no desire to be into the fandom. It's kind of like reading a crappy celebrity magazine. IMO, books, movies, TV, etc aren't really art to me...they're entertainment. And it doesn't have to be quality for me to enjoy.

Seriously though, I won't see the movie because I'm a bitch who loathes swooning pre-teens. Can't even pretend to tolerate them. Plus, it's probably bad. I'll catch it on DVD.

Well, I don't think that YA automatically = mindless. There're plenty of YA novels that've captured my attention more than adequately. What surprises me is the cult following Twilight has despite the amateurishness of it--and it isn't entertaining! Mindless entertainment is something I can get behind, but this book doesn't deliver either of those for me.

It doesn't automatically mean mindless, but this one I do lump into the mindless category aimed at teenagers. The insane cult following makes me want to NOT like it, actually, but I can't help it, I do. Though actually, the author has written an adult book called The Host that I much preferred. I read that one first.

Dude, thank you. The movie was horrid-- bad acting, horrible dialogue. It was painful to sit through.

Then, I picked up the book at the store, waiting on my perscription, I got about twenty pages in and I must say that the writing is mediocre at best. I don't understand how a trite book, predictable and not very well written, could be blown up into such a big thing. It's not fair-- I know people who write beautiful, fresh material and write it well. Like you for instance.

I dunno-- just glad I'm not the only one not on the damn Twilight train.

Yes, thank you. I felt almost pressured when I walked out of the theater to say 'oh, my that was great', of course, me being me, I just flat-out told them: "Dudes, that blew."

I don't know who makes up the rules on what's going to be hot or not, but I sure as hell don't like them. There are far more deserving authors out there.
