Ugh, I'm not sure how to begin explaining this since it's really just navel-gazing at the core, but the short of it is this: I like order, I like making mixes, I've titled some of my Inception fics based on songs, and I wanted to see how those songs might fit together.

As of today, I've got forty-six Inception fics up on the AO3 (the fuuuuuuck), fifteen of which are titled based on songs.

And verily, a mix--with a teaspoon of meta and a walk down memory lane--was born!

Last year I got the flu, was laid up for over a week and drugged to the gills, and instead of just eating soup and watching ANTM marathons I reorganized my iTunes playlists. This is kind of a ridiculous thing to do when you're borderline delirious, but whatever. Point is, this was how I ended up going through my entire library in order to make a playlist out of all the songs titled with girls' names.

Or at least I assume I did, since I just remember waking up and suddenly having this playlist, but no recollection of actually creating it. So here's a smattering of the results.

Happy Monday!

Time for some caffeine for the ears, y'all. Today's mix goes out to anyone who has trouble waking up and needs a little something to punch them into action.

Happy extended fourth of July weekend, everyone who gets one!

I've been tired all the time lately and it's getting on my nerves, like, a lot, so this is me trying to obey my icon and CREATE MORE THINGS.

AND VERILY, I GIVE UNTO YOU A MIX.

Pic by Tumblr, text by Cummings, music by everyone from Neko Case to Sage Francis to that movie about cartoon mice fleeing Russia and its feline oppressors. Did anyone else have a childhood crush on Tanya Mousekewitz?

And now, some entertainment before I schlep myself and my little bro off to see X-Men!

Some of you know that my first fandom was Les Miserables (book, not musical, thx). Today, June 5, is the day the barricades fell and pretty much all but three major characters died. Victor Hugo excelled at writing doorstop-sized tomes and killing his darlings with great panache. There was a time when I ate that up like nobody's business and so did quite a few other teenage girls.

In the spirit of returning to my roots, this is a mix of French songs. I'd give a bonus shout out to my Huguenot ancestor who got himself kicked out of France back in the day and lived to tell about it, but I don't seem to have any songs about Huguenots. What the hell?

So instead, have a picture of Marion Cotillard looking fly as fuck.

Update on my hard drive: I've decided not to pursue data recovery. BUT THERE WILL STILL BE FIC, SO FEAR NOT. OR THROW TOMATOES. WHATEVER FLOATS YOUR BOAT.

I made a list of Reasons I Should Shell Out For This (er...porn?) vs. Things I Should Shell Out For Instead (oil change, tetanus shot, that awesome Norse mythology book at the used book store) and then ate some chocolate.

It's my own fault for not backing up my data over the last few months, and all the important stuff I can reacquire by other means. I've already pulled the most recent version of my resume/references/writing samples out of my sent mail, and I had a bunch of my current favorite songs on my mp3 player anyway. Photos are the one thing I'm religious about backing up, and I still have older drafts of some WIPs, but some of the most recent projects are gone for good.

Fortunately, I don't write in a linear manner anyway and I have a decent memory when it comes to words. So we'll see how this turns out.

You know what's great to listen to when you need a pick-me-up?

If not one of these makes you bounce, I'm sorry. I tried.

If you're more in the mood to dissect music instead of listen to it, check out The Sexual Politics of K-Pop. That entire website has some interesting reads, actually.
