My list-keeping abilities are epic, but sometimes I misplace my lists.

Case in point: that time, um, a mere five months ago when I took drabble requests and then forgot about them. Better late than never, right? Also, these are all gonna be longer than one hundred words, I can tell you that right now.

I've been eying some of the New Year Resolutions Challenges over at Yuletide and, since I actually had a lot of fun writing DPS fic for my original Yuletide recipient, decided to try my luck a second time.

Title: Clean Slate
Fandom: Dead Poets Society
Pairing: Neil/Todd
Rating: R
Disclaimer: Don’t own ’em, making no profit off ’em, etc.
Word Count: 1,860

Summary: Neil/Todd for KelseyML, who asked for "the exploration of a form of art other than theatre or poetry."

Yuletide reveal!

I wrote:

The Thorny Edge of Evening, Dead Poets Society fic for [livejournal.com profile] caitirin, who wanted Neil/Todd fluff.

First, thank you to everyone who listened to me whine about this on AIM and Gmail. It was really interesting writing from Neil's perspective, since the movie focuses on how he appears through Todd's eyes rather than vice versa. I hunted down every DPS fic I could before writing this, since I'd never explored the fandom before, and every single Neil/Todd one was from Todd's POV. That bothered me a little and I decided I wanted to explore the reverse. Also, I found out there was a cranberry contamination in 1959 and thought that was a cool little addition to the atmosphere I was trying to convey.

Hina Matsuri, a last-second Kill Bill treat for [livejournal.com profile] fallofrain, who wanted O-Ren and Gogo.

I really like this, considering I wrote it so fast. I did have the advantage of writing one little vignette in the fandom, a few years ago, so there were a few ideas that readily sprang to mind. The cliche I was trying to avoid with this is the idea that Gogo was born a sadistic psychotic schoolgirl. I think it makes her incredibly two-dimensional to write her off as a bad seed. When you get right down to it, she's still an impressionable teenager in a very highly charged environment. That, more than anything, takes its toll, and is what I wanted to focus on.

Thanks so much to you f-listers who've already unwittingly left feedback on one or both of these!
